Ease of justice as vital as ease of doing business: PM pushes for undertrials' speedy release

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday expressed concern over undertrial prisoners languishing in jail for want of legal advice and urged the judiciary to speed up the process of their release. Modi said ease of justice is equally important as ease of living and ease of doing business in the country and appealed to the judiciary to make use of technology in the justice delivery system.

40 ABVP activists storm Karnataka minister's home, demand ban on PFI

Youth dies in Kerala, monkeypox suspected

In a suspected case of monkeypox infection, a 22-year-old man from Kuranjiyur near Guruvayur in Kerala died on Saturday morning. He had returned from the UAE a couple of days ago, and had no external symptoms commonly associated with monkeypox. He was admitted to a hospital in Thrissur on July 27.

Enough evidence against Delhi minister Jain in ED case, says court

"Accused Satyendar Kumar Jain and his family members exercised control and had a substantial shareholding in certain companies, namely Paryas Infosolution Pvt Ltd, Indo Metalimpex Pvt Ltd, Akinchan Developers Pvt Ltd and Mangalayatan Projects Pvt Ltd, and these companies are also found to be involved in laundering of money amounting to Rs 16.38 cr," the special court said, allowing charges to be framed.

Monkeypox symptoms now different from those of earlier outbreaks: Study

Monkeypox symptoms being seen in the current outbreak are significantly different from those reported during the previous outbreaks in African regions, a study published in the British Medical Journal (BMJ) has claimed. It says rectal pain and penile swelling (oedema) are being commonly seen in the current outbreak as compared to the previous outbreaks in the Democratic Republic of Congo in 2007-11 and Nigeria in 2017-18.

India to deploy 2nd S-400 squadron at China front as PLA jets buzz near LAC

India’s capability to detect and destroy hostile fighters, strategic bombers, missiles and drones at long ranges will get another major boost when a new squadron of the S-400 Triumf surface-to-air missile systems becomes operational along the northern borders with China in the next two to three months. Sources say deliveries of the second operational S-400 squadron through ships and aircraft are now underway from Russia, the first since the Russia-Ukraine war erupted on February 24.

Govt tweaks flag code, Tiranga can be flown day & night now

As the nation gets ready to usher in the 75th anniversary of Indian Independence with ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’, as part of which 20 crore houses and 100 crore people will unfurl the national flag between August 13 and 15, the Centre has amended the Flag Code of India to allow the tricolour to be displayed in the open and on individual houses/buildings through “day and night”. The provision earlier allowed the flag, when displayed in the open, to be flown from sunrise to sunset “as far as possible”.

Class X CBSE exams: 2.4 lakh get over 90%, highest ever; pass percentage dips

CBSE Class 12 pass percentage, number of high scorers rise compared to 2019

The number of high scorers continues to rise in the CBSE Class XII Board exams, the results of which were released on Friday. While the number has reduced from the pandemic years (2020 and 2021) when the exams were disrupted, compared to 1.3% of the total candidates who scored 95% and above in aggregate in 2019, this year the figure has zoomed to 2.3%. The pass percentage has also jumped 9.3 percentage points from 2019 and breached 90% for the first time, excluding the pandemic-hit years.

4 crore eligible people still to take 1st shot of Covid vaccine

An estimated four crore eligible people are yet to initiate Covid vaccination in the country as on July 18, even as the government has made vaccination, including booster shots, available for free to cover all. “As on 18th July, an estimated 4 crore eligible beneficiaries have not taken even a single dose of Covid vaccine,” junior health minister Bharati Pravin Pawar informed Lok Sabha on Friday.
