RT-PCR negative must for arrivals from 6 nations

From January 1 onwards, people flying into India from China, Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea, Singapore and Thailand will need to submit a negative RT-PCR test report before departure. The test has to be conducted 72 hours before undertaking the journey, an order issued by the Union health ministry on Thursday stated.

Govt to rank revenue-starved civic bodies on fiscal discipline

Supreme Court to decide on pleas against note ban on January 2, 1st day after winter break

An SC Constitution bench will on January 2, the first day of business after winter break, deliver its judgment on a bunch of petitions which had challenged the Union government’s November 8, 2016 decision to demonetise Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 currency notes. All 58 petitions are listed for judgment on January 2 before an SC bench. Most petitions challenged the validity of demonetisation while some sought fresh window for exchanging scrapped notes which could not be exchanged within deadline.

Registration of newspapers to go online, will cut process to just a week: RNI

Registering newspaper publications with the Registrar of Newspapers in India (RNI) will soon be a fully digital exercise, bringing down the time taken to process applications from several months to just seven days, a top functionary in the information and broadcasting ministery said on Tuesday. Work to take newspapers’ registration with RNI online has already been set in motion and is expected to be completed before March 31 next year.

As govt takes Covid guard, experts rule out BF.7 wave

The highly transmissible BF.7 Omicron variant of Covid-19 was highly unlikely to trigger another “wave” in the country, experts said, suggesting India should redefine a “surge or wave” to avoid panic in case localised or sporadic rise in caseloads is detected. "The worst-case scenario is that the variant will cause mild upper respiratory symptoms for one or two days,” said virologist Dr V Ravi.

India's Covid numbers at record low amid rise in global cases

Covid-19 cases have generally been rising around the world since early November but the numbers continue to steadily decline in India. In the week that ended Sunday, the country recorded just 12 deaths - including zero deaths on three of the days - the fewest since daily Covid fatalities started being reported in March 2020. Cases detected in India during the week fell to 1,103, again the lowest weekly number since March 23-29, 2020, when the first nationwide lockdown was imposed.
