GPS anklets for J&K terror suspect on bail

J&K Police have put a GPS anklet on a terror case suspect to monitor his movements while he is out on interim bail. This is the second recent instance of such devices being used. The anklet was fitted Saturday on Khursheed Ahmed in Udhampur district on the orders of a Jammu NIA court four days ago. Ahmed is native of Doda district in Jammu and was arrested last year. J&K Police claimed it became the first force in the country to use such GPS anklets for UAPA suspects on bail.

J&K Police announces reward up to Rs 12L to curb ‘anti-national activities’

In an attempt to curb ‘anti-national activities’ in the Union Territory, the J&K Police has announced cash reward of up to Rs 12.50 lakh for people who provide information and intelligence on trans-border tunnels, drones, narcotics, terror activities and terrorists. The cash reward for providing information about trans-border tunnels used by anti-national elements is Rs 5 lakh, according to the J&K Police. Further, the police announced Rs 3 lakh reward for those who sight drones from the across the border and provide information about the same.

10 international airlines under DGGI scanner over tax evasion

The Directorate General of GST Intelligence (DGGI) has questioned executives from at least 10 leading foreign airlines in an ongoing investigation related to alleged tax evasion. Finance managers of British Airways, Etihad, Thai Airways, and Qatar Airways have recorded their statements. Lufthansa, Emirates, Oman Airlines, and Singapore Airlines have not yet appeared for questioning. DGGI has asked the airlines to produce documents related to their India-related expenditure and pay tax for services rendered under the new GST regime.

Local terror recruitment down 80% in 2023: Jammu Kasmir DGP

Government issues directions to boost promotions of eligible officers with disabilities

The Centre has decided to grant 'notional promotion' to officers with benchmark disabilities from June 30, 2016. This decision is in line with the Supreme Court's directions & ensures financial benefits for these officers when they assume charge. Ministries and departments will create supernumerary posts to maintain seniority of other officials. The SC had directed the government to issue instructions on 'reservation in promotion', & now the DoPT has issued a memorandum to implement the same.

Former ‘Begging elephant’ Holly celebrates 5 years of freedom in Mathura

Rescued from begging on Uttar Pradesh streets, female elephant Holly spent five years receiving care at the Elephant Hospital Campus in Mathura. Wildlife SOS brought Holly to the campus in 2018, where she began a new life. Holly, a geriatric elephant, suffered from blindness and severe arthritis. Through topical medication, laser therapy, and hydrotherapy, Holly gained strength in her legs. The bond with another elephant, Kalpana, supported Holly's psychological healing. With medical treatment, companionship, and proper nutrition, Holly's life has significantly improved.

SS hospital head, neck surgery dept gets tertiary care centre tag

The only public head and neck surgery department of Super Speciality hospital in Indore, Madhya Pradesh has been designated as a tertiary care treatment centre for patients with head and neck cancer, under the National Health Mission. The department aims to become a referral centre for patients with head and neck cancer, and plans to conduct training sessions in every district for doctors and healthcare workers in screening of common head and neck cancers. This initiative is part of the National Non-communicable Disease programme, which includes screening and testing for oral, cervical, and breast cancer.

49 more Lok Sabha MPs suspended, 141 opposition members out of Parliament

Assaulted by babu's son, run over by SUV, claims woman

Maldives cancels hydrology agreement with Indian Navy

After having asked India to withdraw its military personnel from the Maldives, President Mohamed Muizzu has decided to pull out from a 2019 agreement for cooperation in the field of hydrology between the Indian Navy and Maldives National Defence Force. 66% decline in killing of security personnel in encounters in J&K between 2018 and 2022

Missile testing paused in Odisha to save sea turtles

India's Defence Research Development Organisation (DRDO) will pause missile testing at Wheeler Island off Odisha coast during the mass nesting season of Olive Ridley sea turtles from January to March next year to ensure the endangered species wins the race for survival. The decision to stop missile-testing at Wheeler Island during the Olive Ridley nesting season and other measures to save the vulnerable sea turtles were announced by Odisha chief secretary P K Jena.

Three terror suspects were arrested in Jammu and Kashmir’s Reasi district and unaccounted cash was seized from them, officials said Friday, adding that the money was likely meant to fund acts of terror in the Union Territory. Acting on a tip-off, a joint team of the Army and police intercepted an SUV heading to Mahore in Reasi district and apprehended the trio. The arrests followed the apprehension of two overground workers in Budhal on December 6 and the subsequent seizure of a cache of arms and ammunition from a nearby forest.

RJD vice-president Shivanand Tiwary gets 1 year in jail in defamation case; granted bail

RJD vice president Shivanand Tiwary has been sentenced to one year in prison and fined Rs one lakh by a Patna court in a criminal defamation suit filed by Bihar minister Sanjay Kumar Jha. Tiwary, a former state minister, was granted provisional bail and has 30 days to appeal. Jha filed the suit in 2018, objecting to Tiwary's comments about his relationship with Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. Nineteen enemy properties disposed of through e-auction: Home ministry informs Lok Sabha

Nineteen enemy properties in Uttar Pradesh were sold through e-auction on September 9, 2023, generating over Rs 2709 crore. The proceeds of sale are deposited in the Consolidated Fund of India, as per Section 8A of the Enemy Property Act, 1968. The valuation of immovable enemy property is conducted by a committee chaired by the district magistrate. The valuation reports are then reviewed by the enemy property disposal committee, which makes recommendations to the Central government. The sale of movable property, such as shares, is recommended by a high-level committee.

Massive searches underway in Rajouri & Poonch; 3 suspects detained

A joint team of the Army, CRPF, and police conducted massive search operations in the forests of Rajouri and Poonch districts of Jammu and Kashmir.
