SC refuses to stay IPS officer Satish Chandra Verma's sacking

The SC on Wednesday refused to stay the Centre's order to dismiss IPS officer Satish Chandra Verma and asked the Delhi HC to decide on the plea against his sacking expeditiously. On Verma's plea that he should be allowed to retire honourably, the bench said officers had to face tribulation for doing what they think is right and assured him that if truth is on his side then he will get justice. The HC had earlier refused relief to Verma, who is due to retire Sept 30.

The SIT filed a chargesheet on Wednesday against social activist Teesta Setalvad, former DGP RB Sreekumar and ex-IPS Sanjiv Bhatt, citing 90 witnesses in support of charges of fabricating evidence to frame 63 persons for a purported "larger conspiracy behind the 2002 riots".
