Centre writes to 5 states as daily Covid cases cross 4,000

In view of a rise in Covid-19 cases over the past week, the Centre Friday asked five states — Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Telangana, Karnataka and Maharashtra — to increase vigil and take pre-emptive action, if needed, to control any emerging spread of the infection. The advisory came after India logged 4,033 Covid cases on Thursday. The last time more than 4,000 infections in a day were reported was nearly three months ago, on March 10.
